History
Malawi has a predominantly agrarian-based economy, with 90% of the population living in rural areas. Agricultural products— primarily tobacco — account for 80% of export revenues.
The current government has been successful in rooting out corruption and establishing sound fiscal policies which bode well for the country’s future.
However, a persistent drought and the rising HIV/AIDS prevalence rate (currently 14.2% of adults are infected) threaten progress.
Areas Impacted
